Determination of Specific Heat of Solids

To determine the specific heat capacity in experiment P2.3.2.1, various materials in particle form are weighed, heated in steam to the temperature ϑ1 and poured into a weighed-out quantity of water with the temperature ϑ2. After careful stirring, heat exchange ensures that the particles and the water have the same temperature ϑm. The heat quantity released by the particles:

is equal to the quantity absorbed by the water

The specific heat capacity of water c2 is assumed as a given. The temperature ϑ1 corresponds to the temperature of the steam. Therefore, the specific heat quantity c1 can be calculated from the measurement quantities ϑ2, ϑm, m1 and m2.
