Ultrasound in Medicine (Ultrasound Experiment Set 2)
Application of ultrasound technology in medical diagnostics, particularly suitable for the training of medical and medical technology professionals and university professionals
This experiment set was developed for student training in medical and university professions and in medical technology disciplines. The main focus is on the application of ultrasound technology in medical diagnostics. When compiling the experiments, emphasis was placed on comprehensively conveying basic knowledge before further experiments explain the different diagnostic ultrasound techniques such as A-scan, B-scan and M-mode. First, physical quantities and phenomena relating to the propagation of mechanical waves such as the speed of sound, reflection and absorption, frequency dependence of spatial resolution and the basic technical parameters of ultrasound devices are dealt with. Then, using selected examples from biometry, echocardiography and breast sonography, the individual imaging procedures of medical diagnostics are explained and various measurement tasks are solved. This awakens an understanding of the relationships between the physical properties of an ultrasound wave and the possibilities and limitations in medical application.
